Is It Do As I Say, Not As I Do?

I’ve spent more than 40 years in the health care industry. Since 1987 I‘ve written and lectured to health professionals of many persuasions, as well as to the general public.

During those years, I’ve learned that the most valuable counseling aid we can employ is ‘walking our talk.’

In other words we need to be appropriate role models if we are to be credible and convincing. And being an appropriate role model doesn’t mean that we are absolute paragons of virtue all the time.
Rather, it means that we travel the same road that we are suggesting others should travel, and that we are familiar with all its ups and downs, as well as with the successes, the satisfaction and the rewards that the journey can bring!

And the most important example we set is the one we set for our children! Whether it’s what we eat, how much TV we watch, how we spend our leisure time or how we speak or behave, our children will learn by our example.
A healthy, active lifestyle is a great place to start!
